A few words about the new direct assembler: I started working on this soon after the last Emma 02 release. Around the time Ed and me started on the COMX SuperBoard (see link above) basics of the direct assembler were working. I decided to use the direct assembler to develop the SB FW as I expected that to be rather small. Along the way the FW extended to almost 68 KB (including some existing software) and the direct assembler became a lot more powerful. The direct assembler also proved to be very handy to adapt existing software as well as correct bugs in the original COMX ROM. If you are interested, give it a try and have a look at the help pages in Emma 02 for all details including examples.
Features of the Direct Assembler include: • Support for 1802, 1804, 1805, Chip 8 and ST2 code • Direct disassembly with the possibility to 'walk' thru the emulated computers memory • Direct assembly to the emulated computers memory • Insert/delete of bytes and/or code into existing software while branches are 'corrected' • Coping of code to other memory 'pages' while branches are 'corrected'
If you would like to have a closer look at the SuperBoard FW: start a COMX-35 (make sure the SB checkbox is 'checked'), then press the 'SB' button on the Direct Assembler tab. This will load the SB configuration files.
I have done a lot of testing on this release but mostly on the COMX SuperBoard. So as always there will probably be some bugs, if you find any please let me know.
Cheers, Marcel.
